Older Adult Services

Our services for older adults lead the way in the south east and many exciting developments within the Trust have contributed to or been based on the government’s new dementia strategy

In addition to the service outlined below, we now have a £13 million Older Adult Unit, the Crystal Centre, at the Broomfield Hospital site. The Crystal Centre offers leading day care and inpatient services for older adults and those with young onset dementia. The whole unit has now been given PDU (Practice Development Unit) status from Bournemouth University. Click here to find out more about the Dementia Strategy and our dementia care pathway.

Community Mental Health Team (CMHT)

We provide core mental health services in the community to adults with mental health problems. These problems can range from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other depressive disorders, to enduring anxiety and personality disorders.

We give people the support they need to continue a full and active life in the community and work closely with GPs, service users, carers and other key partners to achieve this. We also provide CMHT-based psychology services.

Consultant Outpatient

Our consultant outpatient services are there to provide mental health care support. This may be accessed in conjunction with the CMHT or this may be the only contact you have with mental health services.

Day Units

Our day units provide a range of daytime activities and therapeutic interventions that are generally available five days a week from 9am to 5pm.

Psychological Therapy Service

Occasionally in our lives, we may need some help to sort out a problem or a difficulty, or we may be experiencing feelings that concern us. Most people will turn to friends or family, but sometimes this may not be appropriate or enough. Talking to a trained professional can help to make more sense of what is happening to you as well as supporting you through difficult periods in your life. They can also offer you guidance on self help literature that is appropriate to the difficulties you may be experiencing.

People seek help for many different reasons:

Memory Assessment and Support Service (M.A.S.S.)

The Memory Assessment and Support Service (M.A.S.S.) offers a comprehensive assessment of an individual's current memory abilities and attempts to determine whether the individual has experienced a memory impairment which is greater than that to be expected, given their age. Support is also provided for carers.
